Using cutting-edge medicine to combat rare diseases

For people suffering from previously unexplained symptoms and thus possibly affected by a rare disease, the care of clinical experts is essential. The Centre for Rare Diseases Erlangen (ZSEER) provides these patients with state-of-the-art care in diagnosis and therapy.

This requires interdisciplinary clinical cooperation. Numerous clinics and institutions of the Uniklinikum Erlangen have joined forces for this purpose: The A-Center of the ZSEER accepts inquiries, advises and directs them to the disease- and disease-group-specific specialist centers (Type B Centers). Here, patients are cared for by clinical experts who work intensively on the respective diseases, both clinically and in basic science, and are integrated into national and international networks.
