Disease patterns

Rare diseases are not even as unusual in their quantity as their name suggests: around four million people in Germany suffer from one of the approximately 6,000 diseases classified as rare.
The problem is that they form a heterogeneous group of complex clinical pictures with different causes and courses and require highly specific therapies. The situation of those affected is made even more difficult by the small number and supraregional distribution of experienced specialists. Therefore, the work of interdisciplinary centers such as the Erlangen ZSEER, which can cover a broad spectrum of rare diagnoses and therapies through a high spatial concentration of specialists and researchers, is all the more important.
